I don't think I felt more like a 'real photographer' than during those two weeks in Houthulst, Belgium in the spring of 2007. With the tripod on my shoulder, my analog Hasselblad 503cx around my neck and my pockets full of 220-roll films, I pulled off from neighborhood to neighborhood, street to street and house to house to portray the population. The local heroes, village figures with a legendary past, born in a time when the animals still could talk and grown up dancing to Elvis Presley.  Unfortunately many of them have now passed away...
